How to Achieve Your Skin Goals

Getting the skin of your dreams can be a rocky path. All of those products, brands and ingredients can be overwhelming and you soon might get the feeling you don’t really have time for all that. However, the truth is – anyone can have beautiful skin. It does take some time to figure out what works best for you, but once you set up your routine – it all becomes a piece of cake.
Here’s what you should do to get the skin you’ve always dreamed of.

Know your skin

Reading ingredient lists, labels, and reviews of a certain skin care product mean nothing if you don’t know what your own skin is like. The commercial said that face serum is great for normal to oily skin, but how do you know if it’s good for you?
It’s not hard to determine what your skin type is so spend some time observing your face – are your cheeks dry and flaky? Does your T-zone get shiny a couple of hours after washing your face? Get your facts straight and only then you’ll be ready to shop for skin care products.

Do your research

As for ingredients, try to avoid anything containing parabens, fragrance, phthalates and synthetic colours. Those chemicals are completely unnecessary in a skin care product but can be harmful to your health.
Learn from the women who put skin care first, and always opt for high-quality organic skin care products because they’re based on nourishing and natural ingredients that can only benefit your skin and complexion.

Learn about proper order

It’s very important to understand in which order you should apply the skin products. Whatever you do, you should exfoliate first – it will remove the dead cells off your face and let the products get to your skin. Think of those dead cells as a barrier and remove them.
Next, you should know that whatever you apply first to your clean skin, that will be the product that will be absorbed the best. So, be wise and apply the products with the most active ingredients or a product that combats your biggest problem first. Damp, warm skin will absorb the products best and all of those products should be sealed with some kind of occlusive ointment – think natural oils or wax to keep everything in its place.

In the morning

Most women skip morning skin care routine with the excuse of being late for work, but this is an essential part. You need to prepare your skin for anything that will interact with it during the day. First, wash your face and exfoliate. Afterwards, you should apply the serum or a moisturizer to make your skin glow and look fresh.
Another important thing on the list is sunscreen. It’s mandatory to put it on, even if it’s going to rain – you have to protect your skin from the UV rays. Of course, you can opt for a multi-purpose product – like a moisturizer with a built-in SPF and kill two birds with one stone.

In the evening

Never ever go to bed without at least cleaning your face. A cleanse is a must to remove all the makeup and dirt from your face. Again, put a serum and/or a moisturizer and then proceed to apply special skin treatment, if you use any. Whether it’s an anti-acne or anti-wrinkle treatment – save it for the nighttime. The skin gets warmer while you sleep and absorbs better, so retinoid-based creams will work best on rejuvenating your skin when you’re in bed.
There are two more things you should do to achieve your skin goals: hydrate yourself and be patient. It’s amazing what enough water can do to your skin. Besides, the road to beautiful skin is not a sprint, it’s a marathon, so take it easy and the results will come.

  5. This is a great post. The skin of my face is a lot more sensitive than the rest of mmy body. I had to go through a lot of bad experiences to figure what works best for me. The tip about evening cleanse is so important. I also cover my hair with a scarf or something else to avoid hair products getting on my pillow and then on my face.

  8. I'm always so anal about my skincare routine. I really like making sure I have washed my face before going to bed, and I use spf every day. I definitely need to work on researching ingredients though, I want to use less harsh chemicals. Thanks for sharing this helpful post!
