DIY: Smoothie Prep Bags

Thursday, July 07, 2016

Don’t have time to make breakfast in the morning? Well, I have a solution. In effort to get back in shape, I wanted to make it easy maintaining a low carb diet. Have you noticed that when you do not have time to make breakfast in the morning, you grab anything in sight or order fast food? Well, I do not have that problem anymore. Here’s why! I needed a healthy breakfast and I thought about what would make my life easier. Smoothies! Yup, that’s it! It is a simple and easy way to get all of your nutrients.

Smoothie prepping the night before will save you so much time in the morning. The ingredients is really up to you. I usually use strawberries, bananas, peaches, blueberries, mangoes, nectarines or kiwis in my smoothies. As far as veggies go, I like to use spinach, chard, kale or carrots. I clean and cut all my fruits and veggies then place it in sandwich bags. I make about 4-5 bags each night.

Each morning, I dump the contents of one smoothie prep bag into my Ninja blender. I pour in a liquid of my choice, which may be coconut water or orange juice and let the contents of my bag blend. When I stop the blender, I simply pour my smoothie in a cup and top it with chia seeds.

You can soak the chia seeds in water; it forms into a gel overnight. It thickens your smoothie and aids as appetite suppressant.

Here is an example of what I used to make the smoothie above.

½ of a Banana
5 Strawberries
½ of Mango
A hand full of Spinach
1 cup of Orange Juice
1 teaspoon of Chia Seeds
